Trying Chajanmyun and bibimbap

My mom wanted to try the infamous Korean Bibimbap she has heard so much about in the Korean dramas she has seen. So I shall deliver her a good experience and chose YamYam Restaurant.

The first time I was at YamYam I tried some Gimbap, which I found ok. This time I opted for the Chajanmyun while my mom and my sister had their bulgogi beef dishes.

Chajangmyun at YamYam

Chajangmyun is a Korean Chinese noodle dish topped with a thick sauce made of black beans, onions and pork.

This was my time eating Chajangmyun and I might need to give it another try somewhere else. I sorry to admit that I didn’t like it here at all. The noodles were super soggy and soft. They nearly lost all their consistency. And the sauce was so blend I had to add a tone of their chili pepper paste. I was disappointed for spending money on it. Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe the dish is not supposed to be that soggy nor blend. Does it? Do you have any other recommendations for Chajangmyun?

Bibimbap is Korean dish. The world literally translates to “mixed rice”.  It is commonly served in a bowl of warm white rice topped with sautéed and seasoned vegetables and chili pepper or soybean paste, soy sauce with a raw or fried egg and sliced meat. Before eating the hot dish should be stirred together thoroughly.

As I’ve mentioned before I chose YamYam because they serve its Bibimbap in a sizzling hot earthen stone bowl leaving the food hot and making the rice nicely crunchy at the bottom. You can get it at all Korean Restaurants but I like YamYam’s. The bibimbap was really good and my mom enjoyed it so my mission was a success! She is a picky eater when it comes to eating out so I was relieved her first Bibimbap experience was good! It was the right decision to chose YamYam for the Bibimbap!

Advice: Look out for the word “Dolsot” (literally: stone pot) before the word “bibimbap” to get the sizzling hot experience since bibimbap is also available “cold”.

Bulgogi Dobbab | 9,80 €

Ingredients: Rice with roast beef, glass noodles and vegetables in a sweet and salty sauce

Bulgogi Dobbab at YamYam

Bulogi is thin, marinated and grilled slices of beef or pork. It has a sweet taste to it.

I don’t have much to say about this dish because most of the time I am eating Korean I go for the bulgogi served with glass noodles and rice. I think it’s my favorite Korean dish. Before knowing this dish I never thought about mixing glass noddles with rice because they are both side dished to me, complementing the main food (meat). I do frequently like to eat rice with cooked potatoes and spaghetti sauce though so I wasn’t surprised that the mixture with glass noodles was spot on!

Interior

I like the white and clean interior. The toilets are to small for my claustrophobic tendency but otherwise the atmosphere is relaxed. As most of the restaurant it tends to get crowded during lunch time. We came here at around 6PM.

Final Thoughts

I would come for the Bibimbap but would pass otherwise because the Chajanmyun and the Gimbap I’ve had here didn’t convince me
